BASILEIA OF THE ROMANS
OFFICE OF THE MEGAS LOGOTHETES

The Imperial Government is following the situation unfolding in Ukraine with great interest and detail. His Orthodox Imperial & Royal Majesty, Basileus and Autokrator of the Romans Emmanuel I & II, has personally been briefed on all the latest updates regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

We express Our solidarity with the ordinary Ukrainian citizen, who is the immediate victim of the hostilities. We cannot but condemn, however, Mr. Zelensky’s policies over the past years which have led to friction and distrust with the Russian Federation. It became apparent, that his sacrifice of his country in order to join the western block bore no fruit, as the “West” (ie. NATO, the EU) have all but abandoned the Ukrainian people to their fates. This comes as a wake-up call to all those who believe that alignment with the “West” is the only way forward for nations’ development.

At the same time, we strongly condemn Greek PM Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ and his regime’s actions, such as offering weaponry to Ukraine, as this clearly puts the Greek nation in direct opposition with Russia, and only God knows what consequences such actions might have for Our Ethnos and/or the Basileia of the Romans in the future.

Our Government wishes and hopes for an immediate ceasefire, so that the people of Ukraine may return to their ordinary life, and lead their country to prosperity, learning from the mistakes of their current leadership. At the same time, We strongly ask for both sides to make sure that the native Greek community of Ukraine, which has been living in the area for millennia and numbers almost 100,000 people, does not mourn any more than the 10 of Our compatriots who have already fallen victim to this conflict, most in the town of Sartana, near the city of Mariupol which also hosts a great number of ethnic Greeks.

The Imperial Government will continue to monitor and assess the situation in Ukraine, and adjust Its foreign policy accordingly.
